#64 – Nintendo Sixty FOOOOOOOOOOUR

What were you guys doing on April 1, 1997? No need to ponder, it’s a rhetorical question. I can’t remember what I was doing yesterday, let alone a single day more than 20 years ago. Come to think of it, I’m not even sure that’s technically a ‘rhetorical question’. I don’t even know why I asked it, the Nintendo 64 was released on March 1, 1997. This whole thing has been a waste of time. Anyway, enjoy the episode I guess. We’ve finished Night in the Woods, played Sundered and the Lawbreakers BETA.

This week we’re also discussing Doomfist in Overwatch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Overcooked on the Switch, the great potato cake/potato scallops war, hints that we’re getting a Nintendo 64 Classic, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy DLC, PS Plus and XBOX Games with Gold for August 17 and PS Plus prices going up.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Nintendo 64 games, and play RESET Mini-game: Preorder Quiz (another mini-game submission from friend o’ the podcast Sammy Deedge).

#63 – Destiny 2 certainly feels like Destiny

I could say that it was our destiny to play the Destiny 2 Beta this weekend, however that’s both untrue and also a really lame thing to say. So I shan’t say that. Again. But, yes, we have played the Destiny 2 Beta and unsurprisingly it feels a lot like Destiny. Hear what we, as lukewarm fans of the original, have to say about that.

This week we’re also discussing Runescape hitting mobile platforms, Overwatch World Cup 2017 and the impending public launch of Doomfist, Crash Bandicoot Stormy Ascent DLC, Call of Duty: WWII Zombie mode details, DOOM going free with multiplayer DLC, Telltale announcing new seasons for three of their franchises (Batman, Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us), Nintendo Switch Companion App voice chat woes, Night in the Woods, Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Brief Battles.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Banned games, and play RESET Mini-game: Dis or Dat (Marvel or DC Universe).

#62 – Top games of 2017 (so far)

What a strange year it’s been: It started in January, and now we’re right in the middle of it. Really makes you think. Anyway, it’s mid year so we’re talking about our favourite games released so far.

This week we’re also discussing Kingdom Hearts 3, first details about the Ataribox, Playstation 5 predictions, Star Wars Battlefront 2 open beta, a big day for Valve bans, Mario Kart VR, Gran Turismo Sport, Ni No Kuni 2, The Surge demo, The End is Nigh and indie gaming subscription service Jump.

And finally, we list our Top 3 games of 2017 (so far), and play RESET Mini-game: Two truths and a lie.

#61 – Celebrating video game soundtracks

If the prospect of discussing video game soundtracks is music to your ears, then you may be suffering from tinnitus. Consult your doctor immediately. Whatever the case though, you’re in luck cause that’s what we’re blabbing on about in this week’s episode.

This week we’re also discussing new Overwatch hero Doomfist, Nintendo Switch Online app, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Evil Genius 2, Netflix’s Castlevania series, Tekken 7 Bowl Mode, Pokemon GO Anniversary event, The Wonderful 101, Little Nightmares the Depths DLC, Five Nights At Freddy’s 6 cancellation, Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, GunboundM, That’s You, Night in the Woods and Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC 1.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Video game soundtracks, and play RESET Mini-game: 21 questions.

#60 – Crash Bandicoot is back, baby!

Like a pair of proud zombie parents, we’re crying tears of joy at our boy Crash graduating from the grave this last week in the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy. And not even the expensive graduation ceremony, nor the long line for graduation photos can hide the fact that I’ve completely lost control of this analogy. Arguably, it didn’t even make any sense to begin with. Anyway, here’s the brass tacks: Crash is back. We’ve played the N Sane Trilogy. Spoiler alert: it’s good.

This week we’re also discussing the announcement of the SNES Classic, Dragon Age news being teased, Final Fantasy XV Update, GunboundM, Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC, Until Dawn and other PS Plus July games, Star Wars Battlefront 2’s loot box system, RUST refunds, Lawbreakers Open BETA and Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

And finally, we list our Top 3 annoying video game characters, and play RESET Mini-game: Marry shag kill.

#59 – Crash Bandicoot hype intensifies

Four more days, people. Four more days until the ground-up remake of our childhoods is in our collective hot-little hands. But that’s still four days away. “Boring, what about now?” I hear you all groan. Well jeez, okay: Tegan’s played Garfield GO this week as promised, and she’s also picked up Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, so there’s still plenty of non-Crash discussion for all you nay-sayers. Four more days.

This week we’re also discussing some additions to Pokemon GO, the Steam summer sale, HITMAN free trial, Detroit: Become Human, Overwatch, Undertale coming to PS4 and Vita, SEGA Forever, Death Squared on Switch, COD Modern Warfare Remastered and failed kickstarter game Project Rap Rabbit.

And finally, we list the Top 3 Games that made us feel powerful, and play RESET Mini-game: 21 questions.

#58 – Best of E3 2017

Another E3 has gone by, and that can only mean one thing: the concept of time does in fact exist, and it is ever moving. It also means we’ve got plenty to talk about including our hands-on time with GOTY contender Garfield Go. And if that’s not enough titillation for you, we’ve also played WipEout Omega Collection and more of Life is Strange (finally).

This week we’re also discussing Shadow of the Tomb Raider leaks, a new Bubsy game, Killer Instinct on Steam, XBOX Avatar revamp, PS4 Playlink, Hidden Agenda, IO Interactive going independent, Atari’s new console, GTA Modding tool ban, Minecraft cross play, Kickstarter game Blasphemous, Shenmue 3 being delayed and Spy Chameleon.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Best of E3 2017, and play RESET Mini-game: Dis or dat (our first mini-game listener submission).

Special – E3 2017: Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo Press Conferences

To cap off our special E3 2017 press conference coverage, here are the final three: Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo. Again, we mention everything announced in quick fire, and then discuss our stand outs. Oh, and we’ve also watched Devolver Digital’s press conference. Worth it.

For Ubisoft, our standouts are Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Skull and Bones, Transference, Far Cry 5 and Beyond Good and Evil 2. For Sony, it’s all about Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Days Gone, Shadow of the Colossus remake, The Inpatient, God of War, Detroit: Become Human and Spider-Man. And for Nintendo, we’re talking Pokemon coming to the Switch, the announcement of Metroid Prime 4, a new Yoshi game and Super Mario Odyssey.

Special – E3 2017: EA, Microsoft and Bethesda Press Conferences

We’re in the midst of the E3 2017 press conferences, so here are the first three: EA, Microsoft and Bethesda. For each, we mention everything announced in quick fire, and then discuss our stand outs.

For EA, that means Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and new prison break co-op IP: A Way Out. For Microsoft, we’re obviously discussing the Xbox One X (we totally called the name by the way), Metro Exodus, State of Decay 2, The Last Night, Cuphead, Crackdown 3, total backwards compatibility and new Bioware IP: Anthem. And for Bethesda, it’s pretty much all about Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and some new Bethesda VR games.

#57 – E3 2017 pre-show and unfounded predictions

Stop rubbing your eyes in disbelief, there are indeed two episodes of RESET this week. If you’re rubbing them for an unrelated reason, perhaps there’s something stuck in them? Try flushing them out with saline solution and if all else fails, consult your doctor immediately. Sorry, anyway E3 2017 is right around the corner and we are adequately excited to see what it has in store for us this year. So join us on your way to the eye doctor for a little pre-E3 talk.

This week we’re also discussing Pokken Tournament DX, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Fifa 18, Battleborn going free-to-play (well, kind of), the gold PS4 Slim, Valve retiring Steam Greenlight and replacing it with Steam Direct, No Man’s Sky’s mysterious cassette tapes, Tekken 7 and Wipeout Omega Collection.

And finally, we list our Top 3 E3 2017 unfounded predictions, and play RESET Mini-game: The Announcement.

#56 – Tekken 7 and celebrating E3 cringe

There was going to be a Tekken pun in the title but we though better of it. That kind of humour is beneath us. Actually, thats a lie, despite our best efforts we couldn’t even think of a Tekken pun. We’ve failed on multiple counts here. Anyway, sorry where were we? Oh yes, Tekken 7 is great. We’ve also played some other delish games this week, including ARMS (as part of the Public Testpunch… it’s a BETA), BOXBOY! and adventure jam 2017 game: Sidekick High.

This week we’re also discussing new details around the Nintendo Switch’s Online Service, Need for Speed Payback, Assassin’s Creed, Lost Sphear, a gold Playstation 4 slim, this month’s PS Plus games, Crazy Taxi free on mobiles, Middle-earth: Shadow of War delay, Playstation 3 production ending in Japan, Overwatch and indie games: Danger Zone and Hover: Revolt of Gamers.

And finally, we list our Top 3 cringeworthy E3 moments, and play RESET Mini-game: The Game Name Game.

#55 – Put your faith in Far Cry 5

That’s a clever title right? Cause Far Cry 5 is about a religious cult. Faith, and all that. Cheers. Anyway, lots to talk about this week. We’ve played The Surge, passed Little Nightmares and played a bit of that Pokemon Magikarp Jump game. Are they worth playing? Well I’d be spoiling the episode if I answered that here. Oh well, the answer is yes, yes and not really.

This week we’re also discussing Red Dead Redemption being delayed to 2018, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, XBOX game pass, PlatinumGames teasing a new IP, Marvel Heroes Omega, Splatoon 2’s Switch Boxes for sale and indie kickstarter game Blasphemous.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Games for new gamers, and play RESET Mini-game: Character crossover.

#54 – Happy anniversary to Overwatch

In two days it’ll be the one year anniversary of everyone’s (or at the very least, Tegan’s) favourite team based online FPS. While we wait to hear what surprises the anniversary event is going to include, we have a new fighting game to keep us occupied. And you know I’m talking about Injustice 2.

This week we’re also discussing the announcement of Far Cry 5, Destiny 2, The Witcher Netflix Series, Life is Strange 2, Arms, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Devolver Digital’s first E3 press conference and a rumoured Legend of Zelda smartphone game.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Mario Kart tracks and play RESET Mini-game: JB Staff Reviews.

#53 – We miss gaming magazines and demo discs. And Alan Wake.

Ah the good old days when gaming magazines were plentiful and they came with demo discs, or CDs and DVDs full of glorious crap that you could never dream to download with dial-up internet. This week we’re clearly jumping on the nostalgia train, so get on board. Oh, by the way Alan Wake is being pulled from sale, so maybe go buy it first and then get on board.

This week we’re also discussing E3 2017, Paladins, Quake Champions, NBA Playgrounds, Tom Brady on the Madden 18 cover and the Madden Curse, Square Enix selling IO Interactive, Mass Effect Andromeda Patch, Assassin’s Creed: Origins rumour and Death Squared on Switch.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Gaming magazines and play RESET Mini-game: Metacritic Zero User Reviews.

#52 – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is almost perfect

We’re back from our week off to bring you a personal record-breaking fifty second episode. And just in time too, because a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. The highly anticipated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has released, and despite the fact we played it years ago on the Wii-U; boy are we enjoying it. On the back of Mario Kart, we also discuss our thoughts on the Nintendo Switch two months after release. Oh, and one of us is playing horror game Outlast 2 (guess which one).

This week we’re also discussing the Nintendo 2DSXL, Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC Pack 1, Darksiders 3, Prey, AFL Evolution, IEM Sydney, Night Trap re-release, Pokemon Shuffle, Outlast 2, The Sexy Brutale and Kickstarter MMORPG Ashes of Creation.

And finally, we list our Top 3 Sequels and play RESET Mini-game: Metacritic Zero User Reviews.

#51 – Happy anniversary to us (with The Hungry Gamers)

They said we couldn’t do it, and yet here we are: one year of RESET. Oh wait, actually no, they said we ‘shouldn’t’ do it. Fair enough, never mind. Anyway what better company to celebrate this momentous occasion than with our podcasting family (and secret lovers) from Sydney: The Hungry Gamers. With their help, we cap off our challenge season and introduce a delish new segment to replace it. What a time to be alive.

This week we’re also discussing SNES Mini rumours, Call of Duty WW2 upcoming worldwide reveal, Rocket League hitting 30 million players, Starcraft free, pacifist Diablo 2 speedrun, Persona 5, Yooka-Laylee and Snake Pass.

And finally, we list the Top 3 games in our pile of shame and review the results of the Weekly Challenge; Fibbage XL (Jackbox Party Pack).

#50 – Is Yooka-Laylee good? And can we explain Persona 5’s plot?

Oh yes, the big 5-0. What a better way to mark this momentous occasion than by discussing Banjo-Kazooie’s spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee. Oh, and this week we also attempt the unthinkable: explaining the plot of Persona 5. I mean, yeah, we’re being melodramatic. But really, that game is insane and we love it.

This week we’re also discussing Star Wars: Battlefront 2, the announcements from Nintendo Direct, Microsoft testing digital refunds, UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy, Overwatch Uprising event, Bayonetta PC release, the NES Mini being discontinued, Project Scorpio and indie game The Sexy Brutale.

And finally, we list of our Top 3 Arcade games and review the results of the Weekly Challenge; Point Blank X.

#49 – Adventure game time: Thimbleweed Park and Paradigm

Turn your pages to two-hundred-and-fun, cause this week we’re talking some new point-and-click adventure games. Specifically, Thimbleweed Park and Paradigm. Not enough excitement for you? How dare you. But never mind, we’ve still got you covered with some first impressions of Persona 5 and Drawn to Death. Still not good enough? Well, crap. Sorry.

This week we’re also discussing Project Scorpio’s tech specs, Mass Effect Andromeda’s facial expression patch, the BAFTA game award winners, an impending Overwatch announcement, Dishonored 2 free trial, Dawn of War 3, an upcoming first look at Star Wars Battlefront 2 and indie game Geneshift.

And finally, we list of our Top 3 PC exclusive games and review the results of the Weekly Challenge; Super Hexagon.

#48 – So wait, what is Project Scorpio exactly?

At RESET, we ask all the important questions like; what the hell is Project Scorpio? Is it a next-gen console or a half-assed middle-child like the PS4 Pro? And hey, should Rocket League come to the Switch? (Yes yes yes yes yes). And what’s all this I’ve been hearing about Persona 5? Join us while we answer these, and some other questions in true RESET style, ie. not particularly well.

This week we’re also discussing Destiny 2 being officially announced, Outlast 2 and the final word on what happened with the Australian Censor Board, Blizzard Collectibles, some new Switch games, Drawn to Death and other PS Plus games for April, a potential We Happy Few film adaptation, Club Penguin being officially shut down and the impending release of Aussie indie game Paradigm.

And finally, we list of our Top 3 Non-human Companions and review the results of the Weekly Challenge; Mortal Kombat 2.

#47 – The most spoilerific episode ever

If ever we needed a spoiler alert, here it is. For this week’s Top 3 we’re discussing our most moving moments in video games, so go grab a box of Kleenex and keep your finger hovering over that ‘skip forward’ button lest we ruin a game you haven’t got around to playing yet. Spoiler alert: everyone dies. Well not really. Oh, and Tegan has finally got around to picking up Nier: Automata and here’s another spoiler alert for you: she’s loving it.

We’re also discussing Mass Effect Andromeda, Destiny 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Splatoon 2 Global Testfire, Outlast 2, Pokemon GO (oh brother), indie game All Walls Must Fall, Death Squared, new hero Orisa in Overwatch, Super Mario Run on Android and Starcraft: Remastered.

And finally, we review the results of the Weekly Challenge; redesigning Resident Evil 7’s cover art.
